Usage

Every question you ask costs tokens. On most plans what runs out is not money but a window, how much you can use in five hours, or in a week, so Settings › Usage puts that first and the money second. Refresh at the top reads it again. This is what Moe has used on this Mac; Moe Away keeps its own record on its own machine.

When you get close to a limit. Once you pass nine tenths of a plan window, Moe's answer arrives with a line saying how much of it is gone, so you hear it from Moe rather than from Moe suddenly going quiet. The top of this page says whether that has ever happened on this Mac and shows the last one if it has, Moe has never had to say that on this Mac, or that it couldn't read its own log and so can't say.

Then, over Today, This week or Last 30 days (the default):

  • Tokens, as two numbers that are deliberately never added together. What you and Moe said is everything typed, spoken and answered. What Moe re-read each turn is Moe re-reading what it already knows on every turn: your instructions, the thread so far, the tools it has. The second is normally far bigger than the first and is billed at a fraction of the rate, where it is billed at all, so one combined total would look like a bill and be almost entirely re-reading.
  • What it cost, in three honest buckets. Covered by a plan you already pay for is the conversations your Claude or ChatGPT plan settled by the month; they have no per-token price, so none is shown. Billed per token is the smaller models Moe reaches for titles, summaries and background work, an estimate from a published price list, and where the actual pennies are. Nothing recorded is anything with no billing route at all; when those have no tokens either, they are simply sessions that opened and never took a turn, and the page says so.
  • Which brain answered, per model, with how much each said, how much it read back, whether it was covered by your plan or billed per token, and what it cost, or a dash where nothing costed it.
  • Where the work came from — the app on this Mac, things on a clock, work Moe handed to itself, the command line, or a chat app.
  • What Moe reached for — how often each tool ran, the twelve most used. Not what each tool cost: tokens are counted per conversation and never per tool, so there is no such figure anywhere, and the page says so.
  • Day by day, folded away, if you want to see which day was the expensive one.
